Around the edge, the coin reads CCCP — the Cyrillic abbreviation for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). At its center is the Soviet state emblem: a hammer and sickle over a globe, rising above the sun and surrounded by a wreath of wheat topped with a star. The wreath is tied with 15 ribbons, representing the republics that made up the Soviet Union.
